Happy Birthday Chateau – 45 years as leading Sydney Architects and Builders
It’s no joke that Chateau has been in the business now for 45 years.
April Fool’s day signified this milestone event, as the team reflects on how it all began.
Chateau Architects and Builders is a family operated and owned business founded by Malcolm McDonald, and now joined by his two son’s Rod and Alex.
“We’re a fully owned-and-operated family business with a unique operating model,” says Rod McDonald, a Director of the company. “We ensure affordable solutions for the creation of premium custom homes, which were previously beyond the means of most people.”
A Brief History
A real estate agent at the time; Chateau was first developed as a concept by Rod’s father Malcolm in November 1969. Malcolm identified a need in the marketplace for larger and more luxurious homes than what the project home market was offering. He also identified an opportunity to deliver those luxury homes in an affordable way by integrating architectural design, approvals, and construction under one roof.
“Engaging a company to design and build a family home should never be a decision of best price, but rather a decision of best value,” Rod says. “That was my father’s belief then, and it’s still our belief today.”
In April 1970, the company was registered under the name of ‘Chateau Constructions,’ and created their first custom home later that year.
For over 20 years now, Malcolm has also been joined by sons Rod and Alex. Rod oversees the architectural design side of the business while Alex oversees construction, and they are both dedicated to carrying on their father’s legacy into the next generation.
